February is Heart Health Month

Valentine’s Day may have come and gone, but February is still Heart Month… Heart Health Month that is. While around here, we’re all about oral wellness, we want all our clients to achieve overall health and wellness too!

So, what does our hearts have to do with oral care?

Well for starters, February is also Gum Disease Awareness Month, but more importantly, studies have seen a connection between poor oral hygiene and cardiovascular issues. But don’t panic just yet! “While there appears to be some connection between oral health and heart disease, more research is needed to understand it.” In the meantime, it’s best to strive for the best overall health you can reach.

And that’s where we come in. We’re here to guide you every step of your journey to reach oral and overall wellness. A good place to start taking care of YOU, may be in your mouth with things like:

  • Brushing your teeth, two to three times a day

  • Flossing daily

  • Replacing your toothbrush every three months or sooner if the bristles are worn or frayed

  • Scheduling regular dental cleanings and checkups with us

But there also a few other goals you can set for yourself beyond oral hygiene:

  • Staying active and exercising

  • Eating a healthy diet and limiting between-meal snacks

  • Maintaining a healthy weight

  • Tackling stress and meditating

  • Quitting smoking

  • Drinking less alcohol

  • Drinking more water

  • Staying positive and giving yourself credit for your achievements

All these little goals you set for yourself will have a huge impact when it comes to your oral and overall health, which in turn will make your heart and your dentist happy.
