December is Hand Washing Awareness Month

This month we celebrate Hand Washing Awareness Month, and while that may sound silly, it’s so important to remind ourselves and others the importance of washing our hands, especially during this time of year.

Keeping your hands clean is one of the best things we can do for our health.

It’s incredible how many times we touch our eyes, nose, and mouth during the day without us even noticing. And those three places are a perfect entry point for germs. Germs on our hands can also end up on food and drinks we consume, surfaces, and objects we touch. Remember that during this time of year, we also tend to spend more time indoors and in closer quarters than during warmer months, so hand washing is even more important to avoid the spread of illnesses.

You are probably aware that you need to wash your hands before, during, and after preparing food, as well as after using the toilet. But don't forget to wash your hands before and after caring for someone and after blowing your nose, sneezing, or coughing. It is recommended that we wash our hands for at least 20 seconds to help reduce the spread of germs. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Here at Downtown Dental we help you reach and celebrate your dental health and wellness. But your overall health is also an important contributor to your dental wellness and very much important to us. We want to see you happy and completely healthy!
